RATINGS

93Wine Enthusiast

This is firm and full of ripe black fruits, which are set against even blacker notes of graphite and coffee. The tannins carry a lightly earthy streak, and aging in 50% new French oak brings in a nutty, toasty resonance to the finish.

92Vinous / IWC

Deeply perfumed, mineral- and spice-accented cherry, dark berry and floral oil scents, with a hint of licorice that emerges with air. Palate-staining black raspberry, bitter cherry and spicecake flavors become sweeter and more lively with air. Shows very good energy and solid thrust on the finish, which features lingering vanilla and spice qualities and smooth, polished tannins.

REGION

United States, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Yamhill-Carlton

Yamhill-Carlton AVA is located in Yamhill and Washington Counties, and it is entirely contained within the Willamette Valley AVA, Oregon’s most prestigious wine producing region. It has 1,200 vineyard acres and was awarded AVA status in 2004. The region grows Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Dolcetto, Muscat, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. Ken Wright Cellars, Elk Cove Vineyards and WillaKenzie Estate are among the district’s best-known producers. All focus on Pinot Noir.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
