RATINGS

97Wine Enthusiast

...gorgeously opulent and tightly textured at the same time. Spice, sweetness and acidity combine harmoniously and seamlessly...

96The Wine Advocate

...fresh, smoky tobacco and minty ripe peach, passion fruit and papaya flavors, along with precise and noble grapefruit aromas. This is world class botrytis, so fine and delicate, and so is the wine on the palate. Sweet and piquant but most of all highly finesse-full, delicate and frisky on the palate, this is perfectly balanced and extremely fine...

96Vinous / IWC

... Complex, sweet and captivating, with aromas offering notes of gooseberry, grapefruit zest, spiced pear and flint on a bed of honeyed botrytis. Juicy cranberry, lichee and passion fruit flavors are given definition and vibrancy by a brilliant lemony twist. Impeccably balanced and youthfully tart scheurebe, finishing extremely long, with luscious extract.

95Wine Spectator

Fruity and lush, with vivid cherry, berry and dark currant flavors that show a racy edge. Marmalade notes come to the fore, revealing savory elements that linger on the cream- and spice-filled finish. Fresh and lustrous.

PRODUCER

Alois Kracher

Alois Kracher is in Illmitz, Austria, in the eastern lake region along the border of Hungary. Alois Kracher, who trained as a chemist, took over the 50-acre estate in 1981. It had been founded decades earlier by his father. Alois died at age 49 in 2007 from cancer. But until his death he was considered Austria’s premier winemaker and the European wine industry’s unofficial ambassador of sweet white wines. Kracher’s wines based on Chardonnay, Welschriesling, Scheurebe, Traminer and Muskat-Ottonel grapes are all made in the sweet “trockenbeerenauslee” style. Today the estate is run by Alois’ son Gerhard. As a side note, Kracher was a close friend and business partner of Manfred Krankl, the widely-admired, Austrian-born winemaker behind the Sine Qua Non wines from California’s Central Coast. Kracher and Krankl produced highly-regarded wines under the label Mr. K.
