RATINGS

97+ The Wine Advocate

...multilayered bouquet of forest floor, dusty earth and crushed rock notions over a core of blackberry preserves, baked plums and chocolate-covered cherries with wafts of bay leaves and menthol. The elegant, medium to full-bodied palate struts fantastic poise...firm, exquisitely fine, pixelated tannins, lovely freshness and incredible length that reveals great depth.

96+ Jeb Dunnuck

...killer bouquet of cassis, black cherry and blueberry fruits intermixed with notions of graphite, wet stone, spring flowers and cedar. Boasting fabulous purity, impeccable balance, integrated acidity and full-bodied richness...

94Wine Spectator

A seamless effort that puts the focus on supple, silky currant, blackberry and wild berry notes, with firm tannins underneath leading to a long, elegant, rich aftertaste.

94Wine Enthusiast

Dusty rock and mineral characterize this wine throughout its full-bodied concentration of ripe plum and black cherry. Cedar, graphite and oak provide context and additional complexity, rounding out on a finish of dried herb, clove and black pepper.

92Vinous / IWC

...sensual, ripe and alluring, with no hard edges and terrific overall balance...has a creaminess and overall feel that is quite appealing...

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena

St. Helena AVA is at the northern end of Napa Valley just north of Rutherford and south of Calistoga. It is a relatively warm climate thanks to the Mayacamas Mountains on its western edge, which protect it from Pacific Ocean fog. Out of the 9,000 acres in the appellation, some 1,500 are under vine. The principal grapes grown in St. Helena are the Bordeaux grapes of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. St. Helena is considered prime wine producing territory, and it was one of the first important wine producing regions in northern California. The legendary Charles Krug founded his winery just north of the town of St. Helena in 1873, and today the appellation is home to many prestigious producers, including Abreu, Grace Family and Spottswoode.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
