RATINGS

93+ The Wine Advocate

...showing beautifully, unwinding in the glass with scents of plums, peonies, exotic spices, orange rind and grilled squab. Medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping, it's lively and complete, with fine depth at the core, powdery tannins and a long, rose-inflected finish.

93Burghound.com

...abundance of floral characters...more spice influence to the dark currant and cool cherry scents...possess very good concentration where the copious sap imparts a beguiling texture on the even firmer and more serious finale. This is extremely promising...

92-94Vinous / IWC

...intense dark berry fruit laced with tea leaves and bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, crisp acidity, quite a masculine style and a stoic...finish...

17.5Jancis Robinson

... An evasive nose here – starts dark and fruity and then becomes more spicy and herbal... Fine, dry texture... Lightly stemmy, finest of grain in the texture that adds a minerally dry finish. Wonderfully persistent, dry but extremely moreish.

The vineyard varies in elevation from 250 to 300 meters, and the terroir includes significant clay as well as thin, rocky soil. The largest proprietors are Domaine de la Romanee Conti, with 11.68 acres; Mongeard-Mugneret with 6.25 acres, and Emmanuel-Rouget, with 3.58 acres. Echezeaux produces red wine.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
