RATINGS

97Jeb Dunnuck

... Massive notes of blackcurrants, scorched earth, cedary spice, and leafy herbs all flow to a full-bodied Red Mountain Cabernet that has awesome purity of fruit, a layered, multi-dimensional texture, no hard edges, and a great, great finish.

96The Wine Advocate

...impressive nose that embodies the essence of a world-class Cabernet...aromas blackberry, blackcurrant and black plum all sing with elegance and ease. The medium to full-bodied palate is clean and focused, showing a mineral tension with a balanced backbone with an excellent structure...finessed with a silken tapestry of complex black fruit and rocky earth that drinks with excellent precision. The wine ends is long and taut on the extended finish...

94Stephen Tanzer

... Very sexy oak-driven scents of raspberry, sandalwood and spices convey noteworthy lift. A wonderfully silky and plush yet firm wine with concentrated, delineated flavors of huckleberry, raspberry, menthol and licorice pastille. The very long, mounting finish features suave, sophisticated tannins and terrific verve. Really outstanding retention of acidity for such a plush, ripe wine, and not a bit heavy.

94Wine Enthusiast

...displaying notes of earth, dark cherry and spice. Dense, focused, structured fruit flavors follow. One of the wines of the vintage...

93James Suckling

A leafy layer to the cassis fruit here makes for a classically cabernet impression on the nose. The palate sees the fleshy merlot bolster the long, regal cab tannins and deliver plums, amid an array of fresh dark-berry flavors.

91Wine Spectator

Refined and structured, with handsome black cherry, bay leaf and spice flavors that build tension toward firm tannins...

REGION

United States, Washington, Yakima Valley, Red Mountain

Yakima Valley AVA was the first AVA created in Washington State. The valley, a 600,000-acre area in south central Washington, was granted AVA status in 1983. In 1984 Columbia Valley was given AVA status, and Yakima Valley was enclosed within the Columbia Valley AVA. Nevertheless, Yakima Valley remains home to the largest concentration of vineyards and wineries in the state. There are more than 60 wineries and some 16,000 vineyard acres, and nearly 40% of Washington wines are made with Yakima Valley grapes. The most frequently planted grape is Chardonnay, followed by Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Winemaking here dates to 1869, when a winemaker from Alsace planted grape vines. Vineyard planting and wine production plodded along slowly until the early 1980s when numerous modern pioneers started making well-reviewed Yakima Valley wines. Some of the state’s newest, most closely watched appellations, including Red Mountain AVA and Horse Heaven Hills AVA, are contained within Yakima Valley.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
