RATINGS

94Wine Spectator

Exotic aromatics of mahogany and sandalwood follow through to supple red licorice, cranberry, cherry and raspberry flavors that are elegant, precise and balanced. Baking spice details of clove and nutmeg persist on the finish.

93The Wine Advocate

...mulberry and black cherry hints with accents of garrique, violets, mossy bark and some clove hints. Medium bodied, it has great structure with medium to firm fine grained tannins and good but not over-whelming acid freshness complimenting the black and red fruit flavors, finishing with some mineral notes.

90Stephen Tanzer

... Dark aromas of black cherry, black raspberry and licorice. The palate shows very good cut and underlying spine to the flavors of sweet dark fruits complicated by spices and minerals. Densely packed, serious, deep pinot...

17.5Jancis Robinson

... Excellent balance of smoky-savoury and fresh dark-red fruit. Cool and full of energy. Dry, silky and so elegant.

REGION

New Zealand, Wairarapa, Martinborough

Wairarapa is on the south end of New Zealand’s north island, and it is the country’s most exciting Pinot Noir region. Martinborough is the very small town that serves as the South Wairarapa region’s commercial center, and the district is home to more than 60 wineries, many of them specializing in Pinot Noir, and, more recently Pinot Gris. A mountain range between Wellington, to the west, and Wairarapa keeps the region’s vineyards temperate, with relatively dry falls that are optimal for Pinot Noir harvesting. The region also has the greatest variation between average daytime and average night temperatures, also a boon to grape growing and especially Pinot Noir. Sauvignon Blanc is also grown. ?
