1992 Domaine Jean Gros Vosne Romanee Clos des Reas

Domaine Jean-Gros was a legendary domaine in Vosne-Romanee founded in the early 19th century by Alphonse Gros. The Gros family continued to own and operate the estate with Jean Gros at the helm during the latter part of the 20th century. When Jean retired in 1996 the estate was split into three parts with property going to each child, Michel, Bernard and Anne-Francoise. Today the heirs each run their own domaines.

Clos des Reas is a 5.25-acre Premier Cru vineyard in Vosne-Romanee, in Burgundy’s Cote de Nuits. The walled vineyard is a monopole of Domaine Michel Gros. Clive Coates has written that the vineyard “is a very good one” producing “wine that is not a heavyweight, but has the pure fragrance of Pinot Noir at its most elegant.”

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
