RATINGS

94Wine Enthusiast

...powerful, ripe and dense with considerable tannic structure.

92John Gilman

...offers up a lovely, complex bouquet...classy blend of cherries, red plums, a fine base of granitic soil tones, a touch of fresh herbs, orange peel, dried rose petals and a nice topnote of spices. On the palate the wine is pure, fullish and soil-driven, with a fine core of red fruit, lovely focus and grip, a touch of backend tannin and a long, complex and tangy finish.

91Vinous / IWC

Bright and energetic on the nose and the palate, displaying intense red fruit and floral pastille qualities and a hint of smoky minerality. Sappy and precise, picking up hints of licorice and succulent herbs as the wine opens up. Dusty tannins build slowly on a very long, penetrating finish that emphatically echoes the mineral note.

90Wine Spectator

Floral and peach aromas line the ripe strawberry and cherry flavors in this concentrated, harmonious red. Backed by plenty of spice and juicy acidity, this eases into a lingering, spice- and mineral-infused finish.

REGION

France, Beaujolais, Morgon

Morgon is considered one of the finest of the Beaujolais Cru appellations. It is also the second largest with 2,717 acres of vineyards. The appellation is in central Beaujolais south of Fleurie and is centered around Mont du Py, whose Côte du Py granite hillsides are home to some of the best Morgon vineyards. The Gamays made in Morgon are full-bodied and concentrated but less fruity than other Beaujolais Crus. Morgons are also known for their ability to age, unlike some other Beaujolais. The alcohol content is often relatively high and in some vintages the wines approach 14% alcohol. About 700,000 cases are produced annually.

TYPE

Red Wine, Gamay, Cru Beaujolais

The Gamay grape produces a light, versatile and food-friendly wine. It is best known for making Beaujolais Nouveau, but it is also grown in Loire and Tours. Thankfully the 14th C. Duke of Burgundy’s degree to ban the grape did not spread through all of France.
