RATINGS

92Wine Enthusiast

Redolent with ripeness and lavish caramel-vanilla tones throughout...alluring in aromas of lush blackcurrant, kirsch and melted chocolate on the nose. The palate is rich with espresso, German chocolate cake and crème de cassis, surrounded by flavors of molasses, brown sugar, coffee candy and even Scotch on the finish.

91Vinous / IWC

Expansive aromas of black currant, cherry compote, mocha and vanilla are joined by smoke and floral nuances... At once deeply concentrated and lively on the palate, showing very good clarity and spicy lift to the smoke-tinged black and blue fruit flavors. Finishes smooth, pliant and quite long, displaying a lingering hint of bitter chocolate and supple framing tannins.

REGION

United States, California, Central Coast

Central Coast AVA is a huge wine producing area that extends from Santa Barbara County in the south to San Francisco in the north. With more than 100,000 vineyard acres, it includes parts of six counties near the Pacific Ocean. Nearly 20 smaller AVAs lie within the Central Coast AVA. Central Coast earned appellation status in 1985. Included in the appellation are parts of the counties of Contra Costa, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz. Nearly every grape varietal grown in California is grown somewhere in the Central Coast AVA, though Chardonnay accounts for nearly 50% of the entire wine grape crop.
