RATINGS

96Wine Enthusiast

...spectacularly ripe, spicy, concentrated and fruity. The yellow fruits, tangy citrus and mineral structure all contribute to an intense complexity.

95The Wine Advocate

...enormous concentration of lusciously rich, sweetly ripe white peach, Persian melon, grapefruit and pineapple, mingled with almond cream, blond tobacco and Szechuan pepper. Bittersweet iris perfume wafts throughout this magnificent performance, while the superbly sustained finish introduces a cyanic intensity of fruit pit whose bitterness is tamed and stimulatingly integrated...

93Vinous / IWC

Complex aromas of white peach, lime zest, mandarin orange and apple blossom are still a bit leesy... Lingers impressively on the back of the palate.

PRODUCER

FX Pichler

F.X. Pichler stands for Franz Xaver Pichler, the man currently in charge of the Pichler’s 30-acre winery in Durnstein, Austria. Founded in the late 19th century, the estate is considered by many in the wine industry to be the single most important reason that Gruner Veltliner is now relatively well-known and enjoyed by wine connoisseurs outside of Austria. The vineyards are planted to 50% Gruner Veltliner, 47% Riesling and 3% Sauvignon Blanc. Robert M. Parker Jr. has called the estate “the Romanee-Conti or Chateau Latour of Austria” and the estate's Veltliner and Rieslings earn high compliments from critics. Franz’ son Lucas, who represents the sixth generation of the family’s ownership of the estate, is now in charge of vinification. About 75,000 bottles are produced annually.

TYPE

White Wine, Riesling, Smaragd

This white variety originated in Germany. It’s known for its strong flowery aromas and high acidity. Please note Rieslings can have dramatic differences as the grape can be used to make dry, semi-sweet, sweet and sparkling wines.
