RATINGS

94Burghound.com

A gorgeously refined and sophisticated nose blends high-toned and pure floral notes that evidence nuances of green apple, brioche and wet stone that marry into rich, stylish and reserved medium full-bodied flavors that possess a seductively textured mouth feel due to the huge amounts of dry extract that stains the palate on the explosive and impressively long finish...this is a knockout.

92Wine Spectator

...aromas and flavors of spice, flowers, apple and peach. Both intense and vibrant, with lingering pastry and mineral accents holding down the long finish.

91+ Stephen Tanzer

Orange, toast and a whiff of oyster shell on the nose. Strong acidity and underlying minerality give shape and lift to the soft citrus, floral and more exotic fruit flavors.

PRODUCER

Pierre Matrot

Pierre Matrot is one of the labels produced by Thierry et Pascal Matrot. The Meursault domaine has been in the Matrot family for six generations. The estate was called Domaine Joseph Matrot until the early 1960s, when it became Domaine Pierre Matrot when Joseph’s son Pierre took over. Pierre’s son Thierry is now in charge, along with his wife Pascale. For legal reasons having to do with inheritance, some wines are still produced under the Pierre Matrot label, though most now are sold under the Domaine Thierry et Pascal Matrot label. Thierry is winemaker for all the wines, and the family domaine includes the couple’s daughters Adele and Elsa, both of whom studied business and viticulture in college. The domaine is comprised of 45 acres and makes Premier Cru and villages red and white wines. Premier Cru parcels are in Saint-Aubin, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, and Volnay Santenots, among other sites. Matrot wines earn consistently good reviews and Clive Coates calls the estate “a good address.”

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet, Les Combettes

Les Combettes is a 19.4-acre acre Premier Cru vineyard in the Puligny-Montrachet appellation in Burgundy’s Cote de Beaune. It is on the northern edge of the appellation and borders Meursault. Les Combettes is considered the appellation’s finest Premier Cru, and writer Clive Coates calls Les Combettes “the most complete wine” of the four Premier Cru vineyards in northern Puligny-Montrachet. Les Combettes, he writes, “is a mouthwatering and deliciously elegant combination of Meursault and Puligny, with the steeliness of the latter and the honeysuckle and hazelnut of the former.”

TYPE

White Wine, Chardonnay, 1er (Premier) Cru

This white variety originated in Burgundy, but is now grown around the world. Its flexibility to thrive in many regions translates to wide flavor profile in the market. Chardonnay is commonly used in making Champagne and sparkling wines.
