Reichsrat Von Buhl was founded in 1849 by Franz Peter Buhl and quickly became well-known for its Rieslings. Both Felix Mendelssohn and Otto von Bismarck had a taste for the estate’s wines. After being leased to a Japanese businessman for some years, the 125-acre estate is once again German-owned. It is run by managing director Richard Grosche and Mathieu Kauffmann is winemaker. Reichsrat Von Buhl makes wines as a negociant and, for its estate wines, under its own weingut label. The estate is organic and grows primarily Riesling and Pinot Noir. It also well-known for its sparkling wines.
This white variety originated in Germany. It’s known for its strong flowery aromas and high acidity. Please note Rieslings can have dramatic differences as the grape can be used to make dry, semi-sweet, sweet and sparkling wines.
