RATINGS

94James Suckling

Beautiful focus and balance...offering currants, blackberries and chocolate with some tobacco and black tea...full-bodied, compact and firm with a focused finish...very pretty. So consistent in quality.

93The Wine Advocate

...charging out of the glass with vibrant scents of crushed black and red currants, fresh blackberries and black raspberries plus nuances of pencil lead, charcoal, black olives and rose hip tea. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers bags of crunchy black and red fruits, supported by ripe, grainy tannins and tons of freshness, finishing with a fragrant dried herbs and floral perfume.

92Wine Spectator

Cool plum, açai and blueberry fruit flavors mark this version, while a subtle graphite note stays well-buried throughout. Grip emerges steadily through the finish, giving this a slightly toothy edge, but this remains solid.

PRODUCER

Stags' Leap Winery

Stag’s Leap Winery is near Yountville, in the Stag’s Leap District of Napa Valley. The 240-acre estate was founded in 1893 as Stag’s Leap Manor, but since 1997 it has been owned by Beringer Wine Estates. The estate produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Merlot, Chardonnay, Viognier and several blends.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, Coombsville

Coombsville AVA is one of Napa Valley’s newer appellations, having received its official designation only in 2011. Tucked just to the northeast of Los Carneros and a few minutes’ drive east of downtown Napa, the Coombsville appellation is relatively large at a total of 11,000 acres. The elevation varies from 100 to 1,000 feet, and the climate is moderated by marine breezes from the San Pablo Bay. The main grape varieties here are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Syrah and Pinot Noir.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
