RATINGS

93Wine Spectator

A rich, smooth, luxurious style. Ripe, supple and balanced, with a mix of black cherry, currant, wild berry and light cedary oak. The impressive finish gains velocity and depth and maintains its elegant structure.

92Robert M. Parker Jr.

Exhibits plenty of spicy oak, but it is dominated by sweet blackberry and cassis fruit intermixed with notions of charcoal, acacia flowers, and pain grille.

90-92Stephen Tanzer

Grapey aromas of crushed cassis, blackberry and licorice. Dense, sweet and full; broadens out impressively toward the back half and saturates the palate with dark fruit flavors.

PRODUCER

Kobalt

Kobalt is an artisanal producer in Napa. It was started in 2001 by Kevin Carriker, who worked in vineyards and cellars in Napa and Bordeaux before acquiring a small vineyard in southeastern Napa Valley. With help from consulting winemaker and entrepreneur Mark Herold, Carriker now makes about 20 barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon annually. Kobalt also makes Port and Sauvignon Blanc.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
