RATINGS

93The Wine Advocate

...spiced cranberry sauce, blueberry, baked rhubarb, peppered meats and blackberry preserves with touches of nutmeg, warm earth, mineral notions and oodles of potpourri spice. It's light to medium-bodied and silky with lush fruits anchored by mineral notions, firmly framed by grainy tannins and finishing very long with great freshness.

93Wine Enthusiast

...balanced weight and smooth, seductive texture... With flavors of red cherry and raspberry, it has texture and complexity, with touches of Asian spice and black tea.

92+ Vinous / IWC

...decidedly virile and imposing in feel. Black cherry, plum, smoke, licorice, graphite and dark spices, along with the wine’s ample, broad frame all confer a distinct feeling of gravitas...

91Burghound.com

...whiff of tar character to the more deeply pitched and softly menthol-tinged aromas of plum, spice, violet and a moderate amount of oak toast...medium-bodied flavors is quite sleek and refined thanks to the relatively fine-grained tannins that shape the detailed, dusty, firm and serious finale...

REGION

United States, California, Sonoma, Russian River Valley

Russian River Valley AVA is named for the river that meanders from Mendocino County in the north until it finally runs into the Pacific Ocean north of San Francisco. The AVA is cool thanks to its proximity to the northern California coast and the river, and grape growers must learn to deal with regular fog. Nevertheless in recent decades the AVA has become one of the best in the state, meaning that its wines often earn excellent reviews and have considerable cachet. The AVA status was awarded in 1983 and today the appellation has 15,000 vineyard acres. Chardonnay is the most widely planted grape though Pinot Noir has also been very successful in recent decades. Russian River Valley Pinot Noir are known for being rich, lush and filled with concentrated fruit and berry flavors. Russian River Pinot Noirs are today considered some of the best domestic Pinot Noirs.
