RATINGS

95Burghound.com

Tantalizingly layered mix of ripe dark berries, sandalwood and exotic Asian-style tea aromas. The sleek, rich and beautifully detailed medium-bodied flavors that also coat the palate with an abundance of dry extract

94Wine Spectator

Suave and fleshy, delivering cherry, plum, mineral, spice and smoke aromas and flavors. So dense and muscular, this sucks the moisture from your palate, only to return on the long, chalky aftertaste.

93-95The Wine Advocate

Deep, broody bouquet with blackberry and raspberry confit aromas, a touch of fig in the background lending a touch of exoticism but nothing extreme. The palate is full-bodied with firm tannin.. a deep well of blackberry and raspberry

93+ Stephen Tanzer

High-pitched aromas of blackberry, black cherry, violet, espresso and graphite, plus a minty high note. Juicy, penetrating wine with superb inner-mouth floral lift to its intense dark fruit flavors.. classic, savory style.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits, Flagey-Echezeaux, Echezeaux

Echezeaux is a 93-acre Grand Cru vineyard on the southern edge of the Cote de Nuits. It up the slope from Clos de Vougeot and Grands Echezeaux and is one of the largest grand crus in Burgundy. The vineyard varies in elevation from 250 to 300 meters, and the terroir includes significant clay as well as thin, rocky soil. The largest proprietors are Domaine de la Romanee Conti, with 11.68 acres; Mongeard-Mugneret with 6.25 acres, and Emmanuel-Rouget, with 3.58 acres. Echezeaux produces red wine.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
