RATINGS

97Wine Spectator

Silky and creamy textured, this black cherry- and blackberry-flavored red is also intense and complex. Spice, earth, graphite and floral elements add depth as this unfolds on the palate. It's balanced, tensile and lingers with fruit, mineral and spice notes.

93-95The Wine Advocate

...aromas of cassis, sweet berries, wood smoke, rich soil tones, burnin embers and spices. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, broad and expansive, with an ample core of sapid and exotic fruit, velvety tannins and lively acids, concluding with a long and perfumed finish.

92-94Vinous / IWC

...well-defined bouquet of opulent dark cherries and briary notes...palate is medium-bodied with succulent red fruit on the entry, laced with blood orange, white pepper and touches of sage and bay leaf.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits, Flagey-Echezeaux, Echezeaux

Echezeaux is a 93-acre Grand Cru vineyard on the southern edge of the Cote de Nuits. It up the slope from Clos de Vougeot and Grands Echezeaux and is one of the largest grand crus in Burgundy. The vineyard varies in elevation from 250 to 300 meters, and the terroir includes significant clay as well as thin, rocky soil. The largest proprietors are Domaine de la Romanee Conti, with 11.68 acres; Mongeard-Mugneret with 6.25 acres, and Emmanuel-Rouget, with 3.58 acres. Echezeaux produces red wine.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
