RATINGS

100Vinous / IWC

...Dark, sumptuous and racy to the core, the Black Label captures all the best the vintage had to offer. Plush and juicy, with silky tannins and exceptional balance, the 2017 is another positively stellar wine. This is an outrageously beautiful Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

95+ The Wine Advocate

...notions of baked black plums, mulberries and lilacs over a crème de cassis and blueberry preserves core plus a touch of stewed tea. Full-bodied, the palate is filled with perfumed black fruit preserves, framed by grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing long and fragrant.

94Wine Spectator

...packs a punch, with a big core of juicy boysenberry, blackberry and black currant fruit melded together, framed by a singed alder edge and carried by a solid graphite spine. Shows good latent kick and drive on the finish.

94Wine Enthusiast

...gorgeously inviting, juicy and lengthy estate wine, decadent in plum and dark cherry. With supple tannin, it melds together on the palate, fully integrated and complex, with baking spice, dried herb and a hint of lavender standing by.

94+ Jeb Dunnuck

Ripe black (and some blue) fruits as well as plenty of smoked tobacco, graphite, dark chocolate, and liquid violet notes all emerge from the glass. It's rich, full-bodied, and has plenty of building tannins as well as good acidity.

90James Suckling

Aromas of blueberries and brambleberries follow through to a medium body, firm and silky tannins and a fresh finish. A little lean, but very pleasing.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley, Oakville

Oakville AVA is one of the two or three most prestigious appellations in the United States. Located in the heart of Napa Valley, its 5,000 vineyard acres produce some of the world’s most acclaimed Cabernet Sauvignon, including such California “cult” Cabs as Screaming Eagle and Harlan Estate. Before those boutique producers rose to fame in the 1990s, Oakville was already renowned as home to Robert Mondavi, Opus One and Groth Vineyards, among others. Along with the famous wineries, there are premier vineyards in this AVA, including Martha’s Vineyard and To Kalon Vineyard. To Kalon was first planted in 1868 by H.W. Crabb, one of California’s first viticultural researchers, and he named the vineyard after the ancient Greek phrase for “most beautiful.” Though many grapes can be successfully grown in Oakville, Cabernet Sauvignon is king. Merlot and Chardonnay are also frequently planted. Oakville Cabs are prized for their richness, complexity and weight. Oakville was designated as an AVA in 1993.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
