RATINGS

96The Wine Advocate

...smashing success with an impressive array of red and black fruits on the nose with elements of spice and floral nuances that lift the experience to the next level... Full-bodied, the wine explodes on the palate with succulent, dusty red and black fruit flavors before showing elements of dried herbs, elegant oak spice and youthful tannins across the mid-palate...long, lingering finish, showing complexity, precision and finesse.

93Vinous / IWC

Complex musky scents of red- and blackcurrant, tobacco, pepper, mint and beef jerky. Plush, suave, round and mouthfilling; utterly seamless, airy, dry wine with a refinement of texture rare for Washington Cabernet. The suave tannins are totally buffered by the wine's fruit, and the whiplash of a finish builds slowly and inexorably.

93Wine Enthusiast

Aromas of mocha, piercingly pure cherry, graphite and cedar box lead to a textured, graceful palate. The style is very pulled back and is all about elegance and grace. It brings a fine sense of acidity and tannin structure.

17.5Jancis Robinson

...fan of red-drenched acidity flares across the palate, the fruit so succulent it seems to be bleeding juice. A dizzying sweep of ripeness and yet every mouthful is sharply etched, intricate with laurel, pink peppercorn, sandalwood. Tension and very elegant structure in the limber tannins. So freshly cool through the rather knee-bucklingly gorgeous red fruit.

REGION

United States, Washington, Columbia Valley

Columbia Valley AVA is larger than some states. At 18,000 square miles, or 11 million acres, the appellation covers almost half of Washington State and a small part of Oregon on the south side of the Columbia River. Established in 1984, Columbia Valley contains numerous sub appellations within its boundaries, including Yakima Valley AVA and Walla Walla AVA, both large and important wine districts. Columbia Valley AVA, generally called the Columbia Basin by Pacific Northwesterners, is in the Columbia River Plateau, and the AVA also includes a section of northeastern Oregon. There are dozens of microclimates within this appellation of about 7,000 vineyard acres. Many kinds of grapes are grown in the Columbia Valley, though the principal grapes planted are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Riesling, Syrah, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. Eastern Washington experiences very hot summers and cold winters, and the northern latitude means that Washington vineyards receive several more hours of sun in the summer than California vineyards. Grapes in Washington therefore have time to develop significant tannins and overall ripeness.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
