RATINGS

95The Wine Advocate

...a beautiful exotic spice & potpourri over a core of red & black currants, cedar chest, cloves & menthol, fragrant earth... lovely velvety texture & great freshness lifting spicy flavors, finishing with lingering red & black fruit layers.

95Jeb Dunnuck

Cassis, black raspberries, toasted oak, and spice all emerge from this opulent, forward, seductive 2014 that has a frontend loaded style that’s ideal for drinking over the coming 15+ years.

93Wine Spectator

Very complete and complex, from the spicy, cedary oak to the broad, expansive midpalate, offering layers of nuanced berry, plum, licorice and road tar flavors, ending with firm, grippy tannins and excellent length.

But by the late 1950s and early 1960s Robert Mondavi and other visionaries were producing quality wines easily distinguishable from the mass-produced jug wines made in California’s Central Valley. Napa Valley’s AVA was established in 1983, and today there are 16 sub-appellations within the Napa Valley AVA. Many grapes grow well in Napa’s Mediterranean climate, but the region is best known for Cabernet Sauvignon. Chardonnay is also very successfully cultivated, and about 30% of the AVA’s acreage is planted to white grapes, with the majority of those grapes being Chardonnay,
