RATINGS

92Vinous / IWC

Smoke- and spice-accented aromas of dark berry liqueur, incense and floral pastilles. Smooth, expansive and seamless, offering sexy blueberry preserve and cola flavors along with a hint of candied violet. Finishes with bright mineral snap, sneaky tannins and lingering spiciness.

92Wine Enthusiast

Oaky, inky, modern and full of power...toasty and dark as night on the bouquet. The palate feels ripe and intense, with creamy oak and controlled tannins. Flavors of baked black fruits, cocoa and vanilla finish soft and supple, with just enough tannic grip and acidity to maintain focus.

91Wine Spectator

...expressive, racy and dense, delivering black raspberry, licorice, garrigue and mineral flavors, with a nice balance of sweet and savory. Harmonious and alluring, in the modern style.

17Jancis Robinson

...a showy wine, impressive, with superripe aromas...well surrounded by dense and sweet black fruit and a toasty clean oak. Modern style with creamy and rounded tannins...palate remains surprisingly fresh after tasting.

REGION

Spain, Cataluna, Tarragona, Montsant

Cataluña is the northeastern corner of Spain just under France. Its most famous city is Barcelona, which suggests a lot about the open-minded, entrepreneurial attitude toward winemaking in this region. Cataluña, or Catalunya as it is known in the local Catalan language, doesn’t think of itself as particularly Spanish, and its winemaking traditions are a mix Spanish and French. Of the ten appellations in Cataluña the most famous are Priorat, Penedès and Tarragona. Penedès is the largest and most productive of the appellations since it is home to Spain’s most important Cava producers, namely Freixenet and Codorníu. Cava was first made in Penedès in the late 19th century using Spanish grape varietals to making sparkling wines in the French manner. Cataluña is also known for intensely flavored, dark red wines from Priorat and other appellations. The primary red grapes are Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta and Cabernet Sauvignon. Cava is made from the indigenous white grapes Xarel-lo, Parellada and Macabeo.
