RATINGS

94Wine Enthusiast

... Aromas of black currant and black olive meet with wet cement, ancho chile and bittersweet chocolate on the nose. The palate begins with candied black cherry before blossoming into a more elegant portrayal, showing complex hints of olive, cocoa dust and the slightest green hint. Refined, chalky tannins and expertly measured acidity round it out.

93Wine Spectator

Plump and juicy, this seamless effort is focused on red berry and jammy notes, showing plush tannins, depth of flavor and length...

92The Wine Advocate

...lovely, pure blackcurrant and crushed black plums notes with sautéed herbs, pencil shavings, beef drippings and underbrush in the background. Medium to full-bodied, tightly-knit and with a firm backbone of grainy tannins, it delivers plenty of youthful black fruit and earthy expression in the mid-palate and finish.

92Jeb Dunnuck

...classic Cabernet nose of cassis, lead pencil shavings, bay leaf and tobacco. This gives way to a ripe, nicely concentrated, structured cab...

91Vinous / IWC

... Spice- and smoke-tinged blackberry and cherry aromas are complemented by suggestions of candied rose and pipe tobacco. Offers juicy dark berry and bitter cherry flavors... Finishes energetic and appealingly sweet, with harmonious tannins, a touch of vanilla and strong, spicy persistence...

REGION

United States, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles, Adelaida District

Paso Robles AVA is midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, and it is considered one of the West Coast’s most exciting winemaking regions. With its hot, sometimes searingly dry and sunny weather, it is especially good country for growing warm climate grapes such as Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre. Because many Paso Robles wineries have been successful with blending these grapes into Rhone Valley-style wines, it is known as the Rhone zone of California. The AVA was created in 1983 and there are 32,000 vineyard acres. In late 2014 the AVA was divided into 11 smaller sub-appellations, so starting with 2015 vintages labeling will become more specific on Paso Robles wines, which will now also list sub-appellations. Located in San Luis Obispo County, Paso Robles, the town and its surrounding area, was traditionally a farming and ranching region. But from a few dozen wineries in the early 1990s to more than 200 today, the area is quickly becoming known for wine and risk-taking winemakers.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
