RATINGS

While it's almost hard to believe, here the highly perfumed nose is more complex still with a superb range of floral, orchard fruit, spice, toast, roasted nut and acacia blossom aromas that complement to perfection the big, rich...

96Wine Spectator

This is rich and creamy, with plenty of style and sophistication. Ripe fruit flavors of apricot, passion fruit, citrus blossom and mineral course through the refined texture. Unfolds to a long aftertaste of stone fruit and stone.

95-96The Wine Advocate

...offers scents of ripe peach and apricot; saline, savory pan drippings; patisserie-like marzipan and buttered, fruit paste-filled pastry; and exotic, sweet, lily-like floral essences. Deep, savory, meaty and mysteriously mineral...

Dried fruits and nuts on the nose. Ripe, broad and dry; less citric and more exotic than the Cabotte, but extremely unevolved today, with its sweet and dry components not yet in harmony. Stone fruit and white tobacco flavors...

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet, Le Montrachet

Le Montrachet is renowned as one of the world’s truly extraordinary Chardonnay vineyards. Along with its three neighboring vineyards, Chevalier-Montrachet, Batard-Montrachet and Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet, Le Montrachet is a highly prestigious Grand Cru. Though Le Montrachet is usually associated with the Puligny-Montrachet appellation, almost half the famous vineyard lies in the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation just to the south. Le Montrachet is a 20-acre vineyard located on a steep, southern and southeastern slope at 260 meters above sea level. The soil is limestone and clay mixed with pebbles. The drainage is excellent and it is considered an ideal vineyard site. Until the French Revolution the vineyard was owned by a single family. Today the largest landholders are Marquis de Laguiche (whose wines are vinifed and marketed by Joseph Drouhin) with 5 acres; Baron Thenard (wines sold by Roland Remoissenet et Fils) 4.5 acres; and Bouchard Pere et Fils, 2.2 acres.
