RATINGS

95Wine Spectator

Tightly wound, firm and complex, offering a mix of cedar, loamy earth, dried currant and blackberry, with touches of black licorice, mineral and sage. Full-bodied, ending with ripe, chewy tannins that reverberate on the finish.

93-94Robert M. Parker Jr.

... possesses outstanding fruit, full-bodied power, and well-integrated wood, acidity, and tannin.

91+ Stephen Tanzer

High-pitched aromas of violet, licorice and minerals. Dense and sweet but extremely primary, with surprising acidity to the flavors of cassis and molten chocolate.

PRODUCER

Kobalt

Kobalt is an artisanal producer in Napa. It was started in 2001 by Kevin Carriker, who worked in vineyards and cellars in Napa and Bordeaux before acquiring a small vineyard in southeastern Napa Valley. With help from consulting winemaker and entrepreneur Mark Herold, Carriker now makes about 20 barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon annually. Kobalt also makes Port and Sauvignon Blanc.

TYPE

Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
