RATINGS

97James Suckling

Impressive citrus aromas with a flinty edge, as well as pithy lemons and grapefruit. It delivers a mouthwatering impression of power and clarity. The palate has a very succulent, powerful and refined feel with a stunning, saline mineral cut. Supreme concentration and power. This is great.

...liberates notes of Granny Smith apples, white flowers and soft wood toast...excellent intensity of the muscular yet sleek flavors that brim with minerality and plenty of sappy dry extract, all wrapped in an ever-so-mildly warm finale.

92-94Vinous / IWC

Expressive aromas of apple, nutmeg, talc and fresh herbs. Densely packed, pure and light on its feet, with subtle white peach and crushed stone flavors joined by more exotic apricot and lichee notes as the wine opens in the glass...

91-93The Wine Advocate

...quite a virile, fiery bouquet that calmed down with aeration. Hints of tinned peach and dried apricot emerge... The palate is quite rich on the entry with lovely honeyed touches both in terms of taste and texture, a spicy vein emerging with time and showing commendable depth toward the finish.

17.5Jancis Robinson

Mandarin and creamy oak combined to be so fragrant, plus a greengage note. Gentle but precise. Elegant and with effortless concentration and impressive length. Lovely, complete, fresh, and a touch of spice on the finish.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Aloxe-Corton, Corton-Charlemagne

Corton-Charlemagne is a historic appellation for Grand Cru Chardonnay in the Cote de Beaune of Burgundy. The 129-acre vineyard falls within the boundaries of three communes, Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Ladoix-Serrigny. According to Burgundian historians, the vineyard is named for Charlemagne, the 8th century ruler who conquered most of western Europe. Charlemagne enjoyed the red wine of Corton, but as he grew older his wife disliked the red wine stains in his white beard, so Charlemagne had white grapes planted in Corton. Today only Chardonnay is allowed to be planted in Corton-Charlemagne, and it is one of Burgundy's most celebrated appellations for Grand Cru white wine. The largest land owners are Louis Latour, with 24 acres; Bonneau du Martray, with 23 acres; and Bouchard Pere et Fils, 9.5 acres.
