RATINGS

96The Wine Advocate

The 2008 Richebourg sweeps across the palate with a breathtaking combination of elegance and power. It is a huge wine that boasts tons of mineral-driven, pointed fruit with more than enough depth to fill out its broad shoulders.

96Vinous / IWC

...sweeps across the palate with a breathtaking combination of elegance and power. It is a huge wine that boasts tons of mineral-driven, pointed fruit with more than enough depth to fill out its broad shoulders. All of the elements build gracefully towards the intense, taut finish.

19Jancis Robinson

Wonderful depth & intensity of perfumed fruit on the mid palate. Deep and rich & utterly refined. Velvety but fully structured tannins. Quite resilient & immensely fresh, almost juicy at the very end with a luxurious spicy warmth to finish

94Wine Spectator

Flattering, this is a charmer, with plenty of flesh and generosity surrounding a core of cherry and floral notes. Offers structure and concentration, with a long finish of sweet fruit.

94+ Stephen Tanzer

Black raspberry, violet and a suggestion of dusty minerality on the nose. Dense, lush and chewy, but higher-pitched and less expressive today than the RSV. Smooth, rich, highly concentrated flavors of purple fruits and licorice.

94Burghound.com

...distinctive rose petal character that gives way to detailed, pure and vibrant broad-shouldered flavors that drive home to an explosive, powerful, linear and tautly muscled finish where effects of the stem are quite evident.

PRODUCER

Domaine de la Romanee-Conti

Domaine de la Romanee-Conti is unquestionably Burgundy’s most famous estate, and among serious oenophiles, it may be the most famous wine estate in the world. Its Grand Cru Pinot Noirs and one Chardonnay regularly command some of the highest prices for any wine produced anywhere in the world, and according to many reviewers the wines are generally celestial. Though its history is complicated, the domaine is now owned by several long-time Burgundy families, with some owners holding just a very few shares. The 62.5 acres of vineyard owned by the domaine are planted to Pinot Noir and a small amount of Chardonnay. The wines produced are Grands Echezeaux, Echezeaux, Romanee-St.-Vivant, Montrachet, Richebourg, Romanee-Conti, and La Tache. Of the Pinot Noirs, the rarest is the Romanee-Conti, with an annual production of only 450 cases. The most plentiful, theoretically, is La Tache, produced in quantities of about 1,900 cases annually.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
