RATINGS

99+ Vinous / IWC

Ineffably complex bouquet, not as intense as it showed in barrel yet extremely deep and cerebral, black fruit mingling with forest floor, crushed stone... The palate is perfectly balanced with a deceivingly understated entry,

97The Wine Advocate

A striking bouquet of raspberries, rose petals, blood orange, black tea, spices and smoked meats. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, pure and ample, with a deep core of vibrant, searingly intense fruit

94Burghound.com

Fresh, bright and layered nose reflects notes of cool red and black cherry, plum, violet, lavender, herbal tea, earth...relatively supple medium weight plus flavors that tighten up noticeably on the dusty, balanced and exquisitely persistent finish

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits Villages, Morey-St.-Denis, Clos de Tart

Clos de Tart is a Grand Cru vineyard in the Morey St.-Denis appellation of Burgundy. During the Middle Ages it was owned by Cistercian monks, but it was sold at auction after the French Revolution. In 1932 the 18.6 acre vineyard was bought by the negociant Mommessin, which today owns the entirety of the vineyard and runs it as a monopoly. Vineyards are planted to north to south, which is unusual, which is partly to help guard against erosion. The soil is stony with some clay.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
