RATINGS

94James Suckling

The dark berries, sandalwood and cedar aromas are certainly memorable. Full-bodied, dense and rich in the center palate with ripe, polished tannins and a long, flavorful finish...powerful.

92Wine Enthusiast

...tannins are as present as the spicy flavors that come through the blackberry fruits... The aftertaste is dark and firm

92Jeb Dunnuck

...medium to full-bodied effort has impressive ripeness and concentration as well as tannic structure to go with notes of ripe black cherries, graphite, smoked earth, and background oak. Beautifully textured...

91Vinous / IWC

...open bouquet of red plum, wild strawberry, leather and sous-bois aromas...medium-bodied with pliant tannins, displaying more roundness and softness...harmonious and lightly spiced (Szechuan peppers?) on the finish. Nice persistence...

17Jancis Robinson

...intense and ripe. Focused...finish is extremely energetic.

REGION

France, Bordeaux, St.-Estephe

Saint-Estèphe is in the northern Médoc, on the left bank of the Gironde River. Although it has no First Growth estates, its five Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Growth châteaux are notable, and, in recent decades, have become favorites with reviewers and consumers. Some reviewers also note that the appellation is today making excellent Cru Bourgeois wines, which frequently offer good value. There are 3,404 acres of vineyards and a variety of soil types, from gravelly soil to soil with significant sand or clay. The two Second Growth Châteaux in St.-Estephe are Cos d’Estournel and Montrose. The Third Growth Calon-Ségur is widely admired. The principal grapes grown are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
