Unwinding in the glass with notes of raspberries, plums and cherries, complemented by hints of warm spices, dark chocolate and rose petal, the 2018 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile de Vergelesses is medium to full-bodied, supple and layered, with a charming core of fruit underpinned by an elegantly muscular chassis of powdery tannin.
Enticing for the purity of cherry, black currant and mineral flavors on the sleek frame. Linear and well defined, with finesse and refined tannins.
...limestone-rich soils permeating the red berry fruit; there is real brightness here. The palate is very well balanced with grippy tannins on the entry. Good weight, saline in the mouth...
An interesting and cool nose is comprised by notes of grapefruit, lemongrass and a whiff of the exotic that includes white peach. There is again excellent intensity and underlying tension suffusing the even more delineated flavors that exude an almost pungent minerality on the notably dry and youthfully austere finish that proffers markedly better depth.
