RATINGS

92Vinous / IWC

Powerful, mineral-accented dark berries, candied licorice and a hint of potpourri on the deeply perfumed nose. Sappy, expansive black and blue fruit flavors show very good depth, strong, spicy lift and velvety texture. In an ample but energetic style, finishing smooth, floral and impressively long and revealing just a hint of fine-grained tannins.

92James Suckling

This sits more on the strawberry and poached raspberry zone. Shows a supple, ripe and fleshy palate texture. Good balance.

...palate is quite understated on the entry but it is nicely balanced with fine tannin, pure blackberry and boysenberry fruit with a tensile and composed finish. Excellent.

REGION

France, Beaujolais, Morgon, Cote du Py

Cote du Py is a famous vineyard on the slopes of Morgon’s central Mount du Py. The soil is a hard black schist, meaning coarse-grained metamorphic rock made of layers of different minerals. Of the 10 crus of Beaujolais, Moulin-a-Vent and Morgon are considered to have the finest terroirs.

TYPE

Red Wine, Gamay, Cru Beaujolais

The Gamay grape produces a light, versatile and food-friendly wine. It is best known for making Beaujolais Nouveau, but it is also grown in Loire and Tours. Thankfully the 14th C. Duke of Burgundy’s degree to ban the grape did not spread through all of France.
