RATINGS

92Vinous / IWC

Sexy, oak-spiced cherry-cola and spicecake scents, along with a suave vanilla quality. Smoky, penetrating bitter cherry and smoky mineral flavors are sweetened by a mocha nuance and show impressive precision. Supple and seamless on the clinging finish, which features velvety tannins and an echo of vanillin oak.

92Wine Enthusiast

Enormously rich, showing cola, black cherry pie filling and even some dark chocolate notes. There's a soft sweetness of fruit and oak...

91The Wine Advocate

...medium-bodied, elegant and finesse-driven...brilliant bouquet of forest floor, autumn leaves, crushed flowers and primarily red-slanted fruit. Silky, finely constructed and already supple and approachable...

91Wine Spectator

Intense and gutsy, with gripping tannins and a mix of herbal, dried berry, black licorice and savory notes that are deep and persistent, gaining on the finish.

REGION

United States, California, Central Coast

Central Coast AVA is a huge wine producing area that extends from Santa Barbara County in the south to San Francisco in the north. With more than 100,000 vineyard acres, it includes parts of six counties near the Pacific Ocean. Nearly 20 smaller AVAs lie within the Central Coast AVA. Central Coast earned appellation status in 1985. Included in the appellation are parts of the counties of Contra Costa, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz. Nearly every grape varietal grown in California is grown somewhere in the Central Coast AVA, though Chardonnay accounts for nearly 50% of the entire wine grape crop.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
