RATINGS

98The Wine Advocate

...utterly magnificent. Smoke, slate, butter, spices and juicy yellow stone fruits explode from the glass as this totally captivating, alluring wine shows off its pedigree. Waves of fruit continue to develop in the glass.

19Jancis Robinson

...Big and magnificent and well held in by a corset of tannin but with masses of beguiling fruit there. Hugely impressive. Almost more concentrated than any red burgundy!

94+ Stephen Tanzer

Fat, rich and powerful...Utterly primary Montrachet with a stony, slowly building finish and outstanding length. With its powerful structure & impression of tannins, this will probably have an aging curve more like a red wine than a white.

94-97Burghound.com

..touch of wood on the exceptionally rich, powerful & strikingly well-concentrated broad-shouldered flavors that brim with mouth coating dry extract before culminating in a massively long finish where, once again, the balance is flawless

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet, Le Montrachet

Le Montrachet is renowned as one of the world’s truly extraordinary Chardonnay vineyards. Along with its three neighboring vineyards, Chevalier-Montrachet, Batard-Montrachet and Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet, Le Montrachet is a highly prestigious Grand Cru. Though Le Montrachet is usually associated with the Puligny-Montrachet appellation, almost half the famous vineyard lies in the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation just to the south. Le Montrachet is a 20-acre vineyard located on a steep, southern and southeastern slope at 260 meters above sea level. The soil is limestone and clay mixed with pebbles. The drainage is excellent and it is considered an ideal vineyard site. Until the French Revolution the vineyard was owned by a single family. Today the largest landholders are Marquis de Laguiche (whose wines are vinifed and marketed by Joseph Drouhin) with 5 acres; Baron Thenard (wines sold by Roland Remoissenet et Fils) 4.5 acres; and Bouchard Pere et Fils, 2.2 acres.

TYPE
