RATINGS

96Stephen Tanzer

Ineffable, discreet aromas of powdered stone, lemon peel, tangerine and flowers are complicated by an almost metallic minerality. Wonderfully succulent and silky in the mouth, but with a firm stony edge...

...complex nose...white flower, spice and subtle pear aromas...rich and mouth coating flavors built on a base of fine minerality...A very impressive effort that is positively Zen-like in its poise and quiet sense of harmony. A 'wow' wine...

95Robert M. Parker Jr.

...palate of formidable richness and ripeness of peach, pear, and cantaloupe with liquid floral essences allied to palpable chalkiness and creating a vibratory intensity of fruit, floral, herbal, and mineral interchange.

94Wine Spectator

Broad yet incisive, this white features lime, apple, white peach and mineral flavors matched to a vibrant frame. There's intensity and grip, gaining elegance and expanding on the palate, with a long, mouthwatering finish.

18.5Jancis Robinson

...25% new oak. ...Light touches of mineral, spice, honey and citrus on the nose. On the palate, again depth but also concentration, mineral and almond flavours, lemon cream - full and alive and all waiting to blossom. (JH)

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet

Chevalier-Montrachet is one of the four justly famous Grand Cru Chardonnay vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet appellation in Burgundy. The 18-acre vineyard is located up the slope from Le Montrachet and shares Le Montrachet’s excellent southern exposure, though Chevalier-Montrachet’s soil is considerably thinner and more rocky. Burgundy writer Clive Coates has noted that Chevalier-Montrachet is “full, firm” and has “a great deal of depth and elegance.” The largest landholders are Bouchard Pere et Fils, 7.5 acres; Leflaive, 4 acres; and Louis Jadot, 1.5 acres.

TYPE

White Wine, Chardonnay, Grand Cru

This white variety originated in Burgundy, but is now grown around the world. Its flexibility to thrive in many regions translates to wide flavor profile in the market. Chardonnay is commonly used in making Champagne and sparkling wines.
