RATINGS

96Wine Enthusiast

...plentiful huckleberry aromas along with notes of black raspberry, dried herb, black pepper, flower, smoked meat and bittersweet chocolate, showing nuance and detail. The palate is swoon-worthy and knee-buckling, bringing depth and balance along with seemingly endless length. It's shockingly good, with the outrageous balance what separates it.

94Jeb Dunnuck

Lots of Grenache red and darker berry fruits as well as notes of peppered meat, herbes de Provence, sandalwood, and flowers give way to a medium to full-bodied, beautifully textured, seamless red blend that has a round, expansive mouthfeel, no hard edges, ripe tannins, and a wonderful finish.

93The Wine Advocate

...aromas of purple flowers, black pepper spices and soft oaky tones, then offers up nuances of smoked sausages, black olive, dried herbs and sun-kissed lavender and violet petals that sway with hints of baked earth and worn leather. Medium to full-bodied...long-lingering finish that evolves in the mouth with a delicate floral tension and soft spiciness that is simply amazing. Wow!

92Wine Spectator

...aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, peppery herbs and mocha, plus a whiff of milk chocolate... Moderately sweet, smooth, seamless and easygoing, with raspberry and redcurrant fruit flavors complicated by mocha, smoke and spices. Very seductive wine with no edges... Finishes with suave, dusty tannins and excellent subtle persistence.

92James Suckling

Stewed black fruit, herbs, chocolate orange, cloves, vanilla and earthy notes on the nose. It’s full-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Round and plush with a flavorful, spiced finish.

REGION

United States, Washington, Columbia Valley

Columbia Valley AVA is larger than some states. At 18,000 square miles, or 11 million acres, the appellation covers almost half of Washington State and a small part of Oregon on the south side of the Columbia River. Established in 1984, Columbia Valley contains numerous sub appellations within its boundaries, including Yakima Valley AVA and Walla Walla AVA, both large and important wine districts. Columbia Valley AVA, generally called the Columbia Basin by Pacific Northwesterners, is in the Columbia River Plateau, and the AVA also includes a section of northeastern Oregon. There are dozens of microclimates within this appellation of about 7,000 vineyard acres. Many kinds of grapes are grown in the Columbia Valley, though the principal grapes planted are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Riesling, Syrah, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. Eastern Washington experiences very hot summers and cold winters, and the northern latitude means that Washington vineyards receive several more hours of sun in the summer than California vineyards. Grapes in Washington therefore have time to develop significant tannins and overall ripeness.
