RATINGS

94Vinous / IWC

... A complex, highly perfumed bouquet evokes fresh red and dark berries, exotic spices and candied flowers, and a smoky mineral nuance... Juicy, focused and seamless in texture, offering intense raspberry, bitter cherry liqueur and candied rose flavors... Delivers a suave blend of depth and delicacy and finishes extremely long and juicy; velvety tannins shape the sappy fruit.

94Wine Enthusiast

...savory herb flavors with ripe Bing cherry fruit. The tannins are polished, textured and balanced, leading into a long finish that leaves a final impression of composted earth.

93Wine Spectator

Sleek and polished, with lovely raspberry and fresh violet aromas that open to harmonious dark cherry, stony mineral and black tea flavors, picking up speed toward refined tannins.

93Burghound.com

...whiff of menthol to the ripe blend of plum, violet, briar and dark cherry-scented nose. The sleek, intense and moderately powerful flavors also possess plenty of sappy and tannin-buffering dry extract that helps materially in maintaining the balance on the comparatively robust, persistent and driving finish...

90The Wine Advocate

...notes of strawberry tart, raspberry preserves and mulberries with hints of garrigue, dried lavender and cinnamon stick. Medium to full-bodied, rich, soft, rounded and plush in the mouth, it fills the palate with spice-laced voluptuous fruit and finishes with great persistence.

REGION

United States, Oregon, Willamette Valley

Willamette Valley AVA was established in 1983, and it is the oldest appellation in Oregon. Oregon’s modern wine industry began in the Willamette Valley in the 1960s when artists, vagabond winemakers, and U.C. Davis oenology graduates looking for new territory started their own, small, off-the-grid wineries. The appellation is the state’s largest, and it extends 175 miles from Columbia River on the Washington/Oregon border to just south of Eugene, near central Oregon. The Willamette River runs through the area, helping to give the appellation a mild year-round climate. There are six smaller sub-appellations within this AVA, but altogether the Willamette Valley has the largest concentration of wineries in Oregon, as well as the majority of the state’s most famous producers. Pinot Noir is king here, followed by Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Riesling. To most admirers of Oregon Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley offers the most distinctive wine choices in the state.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
