RATINGS

97+ Jeb Dunnuck

...has classic Syrah darker berry fruits as well as liquid flower, ground pepper, smoked meat, and leather aromatics...almost Hermitage-like sense of structure and richness on the palate...medium to full-bodied, powerful, yet flawlessly balanced Syrah...

96Vinous / IWC

...superb. Inky, deep and explosive...possesses superb textural intensity from start to finish. Blackberry, mocha, new leather and cloves open first, all framed by a judicious kiss of French oak.

95James Suckling

Ripe yet brooding, ash-dusted yet with plenty of dark berry fruit, this syrah is a coiled, propulsive study in rewarding contrasts. Brandied cherries, bruised blueberries and bouquet garni nestle against bouillon and espresso. A peppercorn and barbecue dry-rub character informs the savory finish.

93The Wine Advocate

Dark-fruited, chocolaty, herbal aromas build intensity from the first pour, gradually revealing spice notes and further oak-derived richness. The palate is lavish, rich and polished, delivering an intense finish of taut, inward, chewy tannins that will take time to integrate.

REGION

United States, California, Central Coast

Central Coast AVA is a huge wine producing area that extends from Santa Barbara County in the south to San Francisco in the north. With more than 100,000 vineyard acres, it includes parts of six counties near the Pacific Ocean. Nearly 20 smaller AVAs lie within the Central Coast AVA. Central Coast earned appellation status in 1985. Included in the appellation are parts of the counties of Contra Costa, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz. Nearly every grape varietal grown in California is grown somewhere in the Central Coast AVA, though Chardonnay accounts for nearly 50% of the entire wine grape crop.
