RATINGS

92-95Burghound.com

...impressively rich, powerful, serious and concentrated flavors that are almost painfully intense on the explosive and strikingly long finish. This is a classic Bougros with its robust and muscular big-bodied flavors.

91The Wine Advocate

The aromas and flavors show a crystalline purity that is highly attractive. Floral notes add a further sense of lift on the expressive finish.

90Wine Spectator

An apple flavor and a sharp lemon note run through this round white, which tightens up on the finish, with a hint of vanilla and lemon.

90-92Stephen Tanzer

Lime blossom and spices on the nose...Tight and taut for Bougros...Finishes with a touch of earth.

PRODUCER

William Fevre

Domaine William Fevre is a 120-acre domaine in Chablis, Burgundy. The Fevre family has been in Chablis for more than two centuries and for much of the 20th century their Chablis wines have been highly sought after. The estate has Grand Cru parcels in Bougros, Les Clos, Grenouilles, Les Preuses, Valmur and Vaudesir, as well as premier cru parcels. In 1998 when William Fevre retired the domaine was sold to Henriot Champagne, already the proprietors of Bouchard Pere et Fils. Burgundy writer Clive Coates notes that when it was sold “it was first class operation then; it is even better now….This is a classy setup, producing very classy wines.” There is also a William Fevre negociant.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Bougros

Bougros is a 35.3-acre Grand Cru vineyard in the appellation of Chablis, on the northwestern tip of Burgundy. The vineyard includes a steep strip facing southwest that is partly owned by William Fevre, and wines from this parcel are labeled as Clos des Bouguerots. The largest landholders in Bougros are William Fevre, with 15.5 acres; Colombier, with 3 acres; and Long-Depaquit, with 1.3 acres. Like all the Chablis vineyards, it is planted exclusively to Chardonnay.

TYPE

White Wine, Chardonnay, Chablis Grand Cru

This white variety originated in Burgundy, but is now grown around the world. Its flexibility to thrive in many regions translates to wide flavor profile in the market. Chardonnay is commonly used in making Champagne and sparkling wines.
