RATINGS

96The Wine Advocate

Fresh, rocky and firm...offers a cherry core, with a pleasing dusty mineral essence, hints of wild herbs, sage and picturesque crunchy red fruit that shines with purity and finesse. Full-bodied, the generously-layered Grenache unwinds on the palate to reveal seductive crunchy red fruit tones, delicate mineral tension, a firm, tannic edge and a slightly spicy note on the finish.

96Owen Bargreen

...extremely perfumed on the nose with red rose petals, Mandarin orange rind, white pepper and shades of beef drippings...palate is rich and concentrated with bright underlying acidity. Clean and dense, showing beautiful finesse.

94Jeb Dunnuck

Châteauneuf du Pape-like notes of kirsch liqueur, wild strawberries, sappy flowers, and baking spices...impressive, richly textured, concentrated, structured wine... I love the overall balance here...

93Vinous / IWC

...lifted and remarkably pretty. Rosy florals and incense complement dried strawberries...pure pleasure on the palate, weighty and velvety yet lifted by brisk acidity. Mineral-tinged wild berry fruits slowly saturate... What a beauty.

An appealing ripe sweetness rises up, but it's not confected. Good acidity, with some denim-like tannins coming after the satin-textured red fruits and more sweetness on the finish from the oak. Medium- to full-bodied, well balanced... Flattering in texture.

REGION

United States, Washington, Columbia Valley, Yakima Valley, Red Mountain

Yakima Valley AVA was the first AVA created in Washington State. The valley, a 600,000-acre area in south central Washington, was granted AVA status in 1983. In 1984 Columbia Valley was given AVA status, and Yakima Valley was enclosed within the Columbia Valley AVA. Nevertheless, Yakima Valley remains home to the largest concentration of vineyards and wineries in the state. There are more than 60 wineries and some 16,000 vineyard acres, and nearly 40% of Washington wines are made with Yakima Valley grapes. The most frequently planted grape is Chardonnay, followed by Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Winemaking here dates to 1869, when a winemaker from Alsace planted grape vines. Vineyard planting and wine production plodded along slowly until the early 1980s when numerous modern pioneers started making well-reviewed Yakima Valley wines. Some of the state’s newest, most closely watched appellations, including Red Mountain AVA and Horse Heaven Hills AVA, are contained within Yakima Valley.

TYPE

Red Wine, Grenache

One of the most popular red varieties planted, it ripens late and prefers hot dry climates. It probably originated in Spain, where it is still widely grown. Grenache is best known for its use in Southern Rhone wines, including those of Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
