RATINGS

93The Wine Advocate

..crisp-edged red fruits, high-toned herbs, and elusive suggestions of salt and peat. These traits are beautifully complimented by subtly soothing creaminess of texture and tannic tenderness for a very Dujac-typical performance..

93Stephen Tanzer

...Sweet and lush on the palate, with attractive lift and floral perfume to the wild berry and cherry flavors. Can't match the Malconsorts for thickness or sheer intensity, but this builds subtly in sweetness and finishes lush and long..

93Burghound.com

..intriguing mix of spice elements that include clove, anise plus a note of hoisin complements well the rich, full-bodied and velvety flavors that also have an inherent exoticism, all wrapped in a mouth coating, pure and focused finish...

18Jancis Robinson

Discreet nose. Wonderfully noble, though sweet fruit on the palate. This should be very exciting eventually. Light kiss of molasses but lots of energetic acidity

PRODUCER

Domaine Dujac

Domaine Dujac in Morey Saint Denis is relatively young by the standards of Burgundy estates. It was founded in 1967 when Louis Seysses, a food manufacturer who enjoyed good food and wine, bought an existing domaine so his son Jacques could try his hand at winemaking. Jacques had already apprenticed at other Burgundy estates, and Domaine Dujac’s first vintage was 1968. Dujac wines quickly earned acclaim and today they are, in the words of Burgundy expert Clive Coates, “intense, perfumed, silky-smooth and impeccably balanced.” The domaine remains a family operation which includes roles for Jacques’ wife, two sons and a daughter-in-law. The estate is comprised of 28 acres including prime parcels in the Grand Cru vineyards Clos de la Roche and Clos Saint-Denis. There are also parcels in Charmes-Chambertin, Bonnes-Mares, Echezeaux, Chambertin and Romanee-Saint-Vivant.

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Nuits, Flagey-Echezeaux, Echezeaux

Echezeaux is a 93-acre Grand Cru vineyard on the southern edge of the Cote de Nuits. It up the slope from Clos de Vougeot and Grands Echezeaux and is one of the largest grand crus in Burgundy. The vineyard varies in elevation from 250 to 300 meters, and the terroir includes significant clay as well as thin, rocky soil. The largest proprietors are Domaine de la Romanee Conti, with 11.68 acres; Mongeard-Mugneret with 6.25 acres, and Emmanuel-Rouget, with 3.58 acres. Echezeaux produces red wine.

TYPE

Red Wine, Pinot Noir, Grand Cru

This red wine is relatively light and can pair with a wide variety of foods. The grape prefers cooler climates and the wine is most often associated with Burgundy, Champagne and the U.S. west coast. Regional differences make it nearly as fickle as it is flexible.
