RATINGS

99Owen Bargreen

...beautifully floral on the nose with dark rose petals alongside potpourri and garrigue notes alongside dark chocolate, creosote and shades of boysenberry liquor. The palate is ultra-refined and fresh with refined tannins and a pillowy texture. Light on its feet with serious weight and verve...a total stunner...

96Wine Enthusiast

...aromas of blackcap raspberries and grape hyacinth that are flanked by bits of graphite and rosemary. Bittersweet dark chocolate duels with black cherries, citrus and black tea for flavor supremacy.

96Jeb Dunnuck

Red and black currants, bouquet garni, chocolate, iron, and cedar pencil are just some of its nuances, and it's rockingly good on the palate, with a voluptuous, round, full-bodied mouthfeel as well as polished ripe tannins.

95Vinous / IWC

...opens with a human catnip bouquet, mixing violet pastille and lavender with cedary spices and sugar-dusted wild blueberries. It sweeps across the palate, racy and sleek with fresh acidity and juicy red and blue fruits swirling throughout...gently tannic and wonderfully balanced, with a saturation of tart blackberries and exotic spice.

95James Suckling

...a dark and spicy Bordeaux-style red with dried lavender, black cherry, black plum, cocoa powder and clove aromas. Full-bodied, firm and polished, with a broad tannin frame. Long, powerful and composed.

REGION

United States, Washington, Columbia Valley

Columbia Valley AVA is larger than some states. At 18,000 square miles, or 11 million acres, the appellation covers almost half of Washington State and a small part of Oregon on the south side of the Columbia River. Established in 1984, Columbia Valley contains numerous sub appellations within its boundaries, including Yakima Valley AVA and Walla Walla AVA, both large and important wine districts. Columbia Valley AVA, generally called the Columbia Basin by Pacific Northwesterners, is in the Columbia River Plateau, and the AVA also includes a section of northeastern Oregon. There are dozens of microclimates within this appellation of about 7,000 vineyard acres. Many kinds of grapes are grown in the Columbia Valley, though the principal grapes planted are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Riesling, Syrah, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. Eastern Washington experiences very hot summers and cold winters, and the northern latitude means that Washington vineyards receive several more hours of sun in the summer than California vineyards. Grapes in Washington therefore have time to develop significant tannins and overall ripeness.
