RATINGS

93Wine Enthusiast

Rich and brawny up front, in caramel apple, butterscotch and lemon meringue, this vineyard-specific white has tropical flourishes and a savory undercurrent of nutmeg. Ultimately, the acidity wins out, helping pull the wine into a complex, balanced frame of delicious length and elegance.

90Wine Spectator

Lots of pastry notes to the baked apple and dried pear flavors, which are backed by plush acidity. Ripe and lightly buttered finish with some savory accents.

PRODUCER

B Cellars

B Cellars was established in 2003 when Jim Borsack and Duffy Keys decided to step back from previous careers and produce wine. Winemaker Kirk Venge soon joined the team. The label and logo stand for the BRIX scale, which is a system used to measure the sugar content of grapes and wine. B Cellars sources grapes from many of Napa’s premier vineyards, producing a large portfolio of blends and single vineyards wines. Included are Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and proprietary blends.

REGION

United States, California, Sonoma, Russian River Valley

Russian River Valley AVA is named for the river that meanders from Mendocino County in the north until it finally runs into the Pacific Ocean north of San Francisco. The AVA is cool thanks to its proximity to the northern California coast and the river, and grape growers must learn to deal with regular fog. Nevertheless in recent decades the AVA has become one of the best in the state, meaning that its wines often earn excellent reviews and have considerable cachet. The AVA status was awarded in 1983 and today the appellation has 15,000 vineyard acres. Chardonnay is the most widely planted grape though Pinot Noir has also been very successful in recent decades. Russian River Valley Pinot Noir are known for being rich, lush and filled with concentrated fruit and berry flavors. Russian River Pinot Noirs are today considered some of the best domestic Pinot Noirs.

TYPE
