RATINGS

94Decanter Magazine (points)

...bright and expressive wine bursting with freshly picked red berries - raspberries and strawberries with touches of black cherry. Beautifully silky smooth texture which glides across the tongue...so much energy and life...little bit of heat is felt on the finish - touching on cedar and clove spice which adds a piquance...nicely balanced by the juicy mineral-edged fruit flavours...very charming and easy-to-enjoy wine...

93James Suckling

Mulberries, praline, dried flowers, clay and bark on the nose. Medium-bodied with fine tannins. Round and creamy with harmonious, fruity character and a silky texture. Pure and delicious. So vibrant.

93Wine Enthusiast

Along with a powerful structure and density, it has richness. Full of direct blackberry fruits and balanced acidity...

92Wine Spectator

Fresh and relatively open-knit, making the mix of cherry and plum fruit with light anise, tobacco and black tea accents approachable already. Delivers subtle chalky minerality that extends this through a sneaky long finish.

92Vinous / IWC

...attractive, well-defined bouquet of blackberry, light estuarine scents and hints of clove and allspice. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity, and slightly grainy in texture...cedary notes on the finish. Excellent.

91The Wine Advocate

...delicious...aromas of cassis, blueberry, spices, graphite and a touch of licorice. Medium-bodied, seamless and fleshy, it’s a layered, concentrated wine with rich tannins and a sapid finish.

17Jancis Robinson

Toasty, savoury, appetising nose...good balance between ripe, nicely integrated fruit and freshness... Chapeau!

REGION

France, Bordeaux, Cotes de Castillon

Bordeaux is the world’s most famous fine-wine producing region. Even non-wine drinkers recognize the names of Bordeaux’s celebrated wines, such as Margaux and Lafite-Rothschild. Located near the Atlantic coast in southwest France, the region takes its name from the seaport city of Bordeaux, a wine trading center with an outstanding site on the Garonne River and easy access to the Atlantic. Like most French wine regions, Bordeaux’s first vineyards were planted by the Romans more than 2,000 years ago, then tended by medieval monks. Aristocrats and nobility later owned the region’s best estates and today estates are owned by everyone from non-French business conglomerates to families who have been proprietors for generations. Bordeaux has nearly 280,000 acres of vineyards, 57 appellations and 10,000 wine-producing châteaux. Bordeaux is bifurcated by the Gironde Estuary into so-called “right bank” and “left bank” appellations. Bordeaux’s red wines are blends of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. It also makes white wines of Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. There are several classification systems in Bordeaux. All are attempts to rank the estates based on the historic quality of the wines.
