RATINGS

97James Suckling

...unique aromas of sliced lemon, salted caramel and flint. It’s full and oily yet at the same time dynamic and very fresh, with sliced citrus, tarte tatin, and dried fruit. Loads of lemon zest. What a finish. Keeps on changing in the glass. Flamboyant. Savory.

96Wine Spectator

Dense, broad and concentrated, offering notes of preserved lemon, honeysuckle, caramelized apple and salted butterscotch. At the core there's a purity to the peach, nectarine and mango flavors, with apple and pear accents. This white's vibrant acidity keeps the flavors focused and light on their feet.

95Vinous / IWC

...offers a beguiling mix of fruit intensity framed by strong mineral, soil-driven tons. Lemon confit, tangerine peel, chamomile, graphite and dried herbs fill out the layers in a Chardonnay marked by intense minerality, strong citrus character and fabulous balance.

94+ The Wine Advocate

...generous and spicy... Flinty tones give way to perfumed white peach, lime candy, citrus blossoms and honeycomb. The medium-bodied palate combines ripe, peachy fruit with matchstick nuances...gentle chalkiness to the texture, bright bursts of acidity and a long, detailed finish.

94Jeb Dunnuck

...aromatic with a bit of flinty reduction and gives way to sunny fruit of ripe peach, fresh flowers, and preserved citrus. Ripe and full-bodied...ripe texture and notes of lush golden apples, hay, toasted spice, and bit of green almond on the finish.

PRODUCER

Kistler

Founded in 1978 by Steve Kistler, Kistler Vineyards produces some of California’s most admired Chardonnay. Located in the Russian River Valley, Kistler’s Burgundian style Chardonnays have achieved a “Cult Chardonnay” status because of their traditional style and extraordinary, Grand Cru character. Recently Kistler Vineyards has also won accolades for its Pinot Noir, which Robert M. Parker Jr. predicts may eventually be even more profound and admired than the winery’s Chardonnays. But whether they are making Chardonnay or Pinot Noir, Kistler Vineyards’ wines are always highly rated and hard to acquire. The winery owns 210 acres, which it plants to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah. Annual production is generally under 10,000 cases. Kistler wines are usually available only through its mailing list.

TYPE

White Wine, Chardonnay

This white variety originated in Burgundy, but is now grown around the world. Its flexibility to thrive in many regions translates to wide flavor profile in the market. Chardonnay is commonly used in making Champagne and sparkling wines.
