RATINGS

92James Suckling

...soft and velvety textured with beautiful chocolate, walnut, berry and currant character. Medium body. Fresh and delicious finish. Inky aftertaste.

91Wine Enthusiast

Bold aromas of black plum, licorice and chocolate mark the nose, with accents of turmeric and dried herb adding interest...medium- to full-bodied...confident and muscular, bearing toasty and chocolaty flavors...finish is warm, structured and enduring.

90Wine Spectator

This plush red offers ripe flavors of black cherry and plum, with notes of espresso and toast...ripe fruit is supported by well-integrated tannins and juicy acidity. Smoky finish.

16Jancis Robinson

Quite sweet...with good freshness and a hint of tea leaves on the finish... Medium weight and the alcohol is well hidden.

PRODUCER

RdV Vineyards

RdV Vineyards is in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in Virginia, and it has ambitions to become the best known Virginia wine estate since Thomas Jefferson made wine at Monticello. RdV Vineyards was founded in 2004 by Rutger de Vink, an entrepreneur with a background in technology and an interest in winemaking. He worked a few grape harvests and informally studied winemaking in Bordeaux and California before planting vines on his Virginia estate in 2006. The estate has 16 acres of vineyards in 11 parcels planted to 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 12% Petit Verdot 8% Cabernet Franc. French oenologist Eric Boissenot is consulting winemaker. The debut wines were two Bordeaux-style blends, both from 2008.
