RATINGS

96+ The Wine Advocate

...notes of toasted almond meal, stone fruit, brine and citrus peel, with a deeper undercurrent of sandalwood and exotic spice. There are also notes of cut fennel, some ginger and loads of salted nuts. This is a lovely wine. It is big and powerful.

96James Suckling

Taut and seamless. Lemon curd and roasted quince, nestled amidst creamed cashew, nougatine and truffle at the core. The finish is endless, joining a matrix of textural rivets and seams, underlain by the flavorful Gingin clone.

95Vinous / IWC

...lower north-facing slope, offers up a rich core of powerful nectarine and spiced pear lifted by French nougat and gentle oak spice. It displays an excellent volume of flavor, with a fresh line of acidity and superb balance–a hallmark of a long, silky and stunning finish.

95Wine Enthusiast

...opulent aromas of caramel, ginger snap, citrus and mushroom...generosity on the palate is brightened by lovely, unforced acidity. Long, with a mineral note creeping in amidst the more polished oak-and-lees characters...

94Wine Spectator

Offers bright and mouthwatering flavors of Meyer lemon, mango and lemon sherbet, with details of flinty minerality, ripe peach, candied ginger and buttery shortbread. Notes of orange blossom and wild fennel add aromatic complexity and linger on the long finish.

17.5Jancis Robinson

Tasting rather gorgeous right now as the satin fruit unfurls into ribbons of nectarine, clementine, yuzu and pineapple. Some tropical sweetness but also flaring with gloriously ripe acidity, a shimmer of cedar and cinnamon spice, linden blossom and mouth-watering quarry-dust minerality on the end.

REGION

Australia, Victoria, Yarra Valley

Victoria is one of Australia’s smallest and coolest wine regions, yet one of the nation’s most dynamic and quality-oriented. Unlike many of Australia’s wine regions, which include many large, industrial producers, most Victoria producers are small, independently owned and crush fewer than 25 tons of grapes per year. With more than 600 wineries, Victoria has more producers than any other state, though it ranks third in production. Winemaking started in Victoria in the 1850s when Swiss immigrant Hubert de Castella recognized the area’s winemaking potential. There are many climates and topographies in Victoria, from dry, irrigated inland terroirs to cooler, higher regions. Top sub-appellations include Heathcote, Rutherglen and the Yarra Valley. Shiraz and Chardonnay are the principal grapes grown, though Viognier, Pinot Noir and Tannant are also grown. Of special note is the region’s history with sweet dessert wines made of Muscat. Some are called “Tokay” and are made from the Muscadelle grape. Red dessert, Madeira-style wines are also produced.

TYPE

White Wine, Chardonnay

This white variety originated in Burgundy, but is now grown around the world. Its flexibility to thrive in many regions translates to wide flavor profile in the market. Chardonnay is commonly used in making Champagne and sparkling wines.
