RATINGS

95Vinous / IWC

Lemon confit, white flowers and light tropical accents lend quite a bit of character.

94James Suckling

A fresh and creamy chardonnay from here with stone, apple-pie and pear aromas and flavors.

94Wine Enthusiast

Grown at high elevation, this structured, elegant white is balanced and beautifully composed. Crushed rock, ripe pear and melon flavors combine around bright, well-integrated acidity and oak, with a lasting imprint of flinty minerality.

93The Wine Advocate

...hints at sweet corn but delivers vibrant apple and pineapple flavors...greater richness and texture than in the more polite 2021, but the wine remains medium-bodied and silky textured, with a lingering, elegant finish.

92Wine Spectator

Vibrant and intense, with a laser beam of Meyer lemon and yuzu flavors at the core, showcasing lemon thyme, ginger and sea salt minerality on the long finish.

PRODUCER

Mayacamas

Located in the Mayacamas Mountains between Sonoma and Napa Valleys, Mayacamas winery was built in 1889 by a German immigrant who sold wine by the barrel to bottlers in San Francisco. The winery was owned by several families in the 20th century and in July 2013 Mayacamas was purchased by Charles Banks and his wife Ali, in partnership with Jay Schottenstein and his son Joey. Andy Erickson will lead the winemaking. The new owners are only the fourth group of owners in the estate’s long history. Mayacamas is known for its Cabernet Sauvignon as well as a widely admired Chardonnay. Grapes grown at the winery are Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc.

REGION

United States, California, Napa Valley

Napa Valley AVA is the most famous winemaking region in the United States and one of the most prestigious in the world. With nearly 43,000 acres of vineyards and more than 300 wineries, it is the heart of fine wine production in the United States. Winemaking started in Napa in 1838 when George C. Yount planted grapes and began producing wine commercially. Other winemaking pioneers followed in the late 19th century, including the founders of Charles Krug, Schramsberg, Inglenook and Beaulieu Vineyards. An infestation of phylloxera, an insect that attacks vine roots, and the onset of Prohibition nearly wiped out the nascent Napa wine industry in the early 20th century. But by the late 1950s and early 1960s Robert Mondavi and other visionaries were producing quality wines easily distinguishable from the mass-produced jug wines made in California’s Central Valley. Napa Valley’s AVA was established in 1983, and today there are 16 sub-appellations within the Napa Valley AVA. Many grapes grow well in Napa’s Mediterranean climate, but the region is best known for Cabernet Sauvignon. Chardonnay is also very successfully cultivated, and about 30% of the AVA’s acreage is planted to white grapes, with the majority of those grapes being Chardonnay,
