West Coast Cabernet Sauvignon

Abreu. Araujo. Beringer. Bryant. Caymus. Dalla Valle. Harlan. Robert Mondavi. Opus One. Shafer. Peter Michaels. Quilceda Creek. These are some of the fine West Coast producers of Cabernet Sauvignon whose fine wines are offered in this choice selection. Included are such wines as 2002 Harlan, which Robert M. Parker Jr. rated at 100 pts and called a “profoundly complex wine (that) exhibits notes of cedar, black currant liqueur, scorched earth, smoke, and graphite. Incredibly broad, sweet, full-bodied, opulent, and voluptuous...” Every wine here earned at least 94 pts from reviewers.

Historic Bordeaux and Burgundy

Some of the most renowned Bordeaux and Burgundy vintages of the mid-20th century are on offer in this collection of historic wines. Vintages ranging from 1945 to the mid-1960s are included. Here’s a taste of 20th century wine-making history: 1961 Petrus, Robert M. Parker Jr. 100 pts; 1961 Mouton-Rothschild, Parker 98 pts; 1961 Latour, Wine Spectator 98 pts; 1961 Lafite-Rothschild, WS 91 pts; 1961 Haut-Brion, Parker 100 pts. Parker called the 1961 Petrus “pure perfection.” There are older vintages, such as 1945 Latour, WS 100 pts, and 1959 Latour, WS 98 pts. If you’re looking for historic Burgundy, we offer 1957 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti La Tache and 1962 DRC Grand Echezeaux, which Michael Broadbent rated at 5 stars and called “ripe and rich.” Finally, there are historic California Cabs here from Inglenook as well as 1967 d’Yquem, WS 100 pts.

     

Extraordinary Burgundy

Louis Jadot. Domaine Leroy. Dominique Laurent. Comte de Vogue. Bouchard Pere et Fils. Those are some of Burgundy’s most admired producers and they are some of the maisons whose fine Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays are offered in this collection. Most vintages are from the mid-1990s, and all the wines are outstanding. Here’s a taste: 1995 Domaine Leroy Richebourg, Robert M. Parker Jr. and Wine Spectator both 95 pts; 1995 Dominique Laurent Echezeaux, Wine Advocate 93-96 pts; 1996 Comte de Vogue Chambolle Musigny, WA 92 pts; and 1995 Dominique Laurent Mazis-Chambertin, which WS rated at 98 pts and called “thick and unctuous, huge and powerful.” There are Chardonnays here, including 1995 Domaine Leflaive Puligny Montrachet les Folatieres, which WS rated at 97 pts and called “amazingly intense and concentrated.” Also offered are vintage Champagnes, such as 1990 Krug Brut, WS 98 pts.

     

International Cellar Stars

Bordeaux. California Cabernet Sauvignon. Cote-Rotie. Super-Tuscans. They’re all here in this big collection of the world’s finest wines. Here’s a taste: 2003 Ducru-Beaucaillou, 1.5ltr, Wine Spectator 97 pts; 2003 Cheval-Blanc, WS 96 pts; 2004 Leoville-las-Cases, WS 95 pts; 2001 Pape-Clement, Robert M. Parker Jr. 95 pts; and 2006 M. Chapoutier Cote-Rotie La Mordoree, which WS rated at 95 pts and Parker called a “muscular, dense, luscious effort.” Also offered are 2004 Beringer Private Reserve, Parker 95 pts; 2006 Bryant, WS 98 pts; and 1999 Shafer, which Parker and WS both rated at 97 pts. From Italy we offer 2004 Gaja Langhe Sori San Lorenzo, which Wine Advocate rated at 98 pts and called a “drop-dead gorgeous wine. It presents awesome balance, especially in the way it marries power with elegance.”

     

Charity Auction

Once again the St. Helena Jr. Women have organized an auction to support non-profit charitable organizations in the Napa Valley. The wines offered here are from outstanding Napa Valley wine makers and most are offered in 1.5ltr format or larger. Included are such terrific wines as 2006 Bacio Divino, Robert M. Parker Jr. 91 pts; 2006 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon, Wine Spectator 92 pts; 2006 David Arthur Elevation 1147 Cabernet Sauvingon, in 6.0ltr, WS 92 pts; 2000 Shafer Merlot, WS 92 pts; and 2006 Turley Hayne Vineyard Petite Sirah, which Parker rated at 93-96 pts and called “inky purple in color with a glorious nose of charcoal, black raspberry, blueberry, creme de cassis, licorice, and crushed rocks, it is very full-bodied, powerful.”

     

The Best of France

From Petrus and Haut-Brion to DRC and d’Yquem, the best wines of France are offered in this remarkable collection. Vintages are from the 1980s and 1990s. Included are: 1986 Cheval-Blanc, Wine Spectator 98 pts; 1989 Haut-Brion, Robert M. Parker Jr. and WS both 100 pts; 1986 Lafite-Rothschild, Parker 100 pts; and 1990 d’Yquem, 375ml, Parker 99 pts. From the Rhone Valley we offer 1991 E. Guigal Cote-Rotie, Parker 98-100 pts, and there is vintage Champagne from Bollinger. If you collect Burgundy, we have 1995 DRC Richebourg, which WS rated at 98 pts and Wine Advocate called “spectacular.” Also here is the remarkable 1998 Petrus, which Parker and WS rated at 98 pts. Wine Spectator’s reviewer wrote that the 1998 Petrus “leaves me speechless; like gazing at a Canaletto painting.” There are choice Cabs and Shiraz here, including 1993 Penfolds Grange, WS 95 pts.

     

“Perfect” Bordeaux

“Extremely powerful and full-bodied, with remarkable complexity...this huge Lafite is oozing with extract and richness, yet has managed to preserve its quintessentially elegant personality.” That’s how Robert M. Parker Jr. described the 1996 Lafite-Rothschild, which he rated at 100 pts. It is one of many outstanding Bordeaux offered in this collection. We can’t even begin to list all the “perfect” wines here. But everything on offer is worthy of a place in any collector’s cellar. Included are: 2000 Cheval-Blanc, Parker 100 pts; 1996 La Mission Haut-Brion, Parker 100 pts; 2005 Leoville-las-Cases, Wine Spectator 100 pts; 2000 Haut-Brion, Parker 98+ pts; 2000 l’Angelus, Decanter 5 stars; and 1996 Margaux, Parker 99 pts.
