Included, for instance, is 1996 Marcassin Chardonnay, which Robert M. Parker Jr. rated at 99 pts and called “an extraordinary wine that somehow manages to juxtapose complexity, elegance, and finesse with unbridled power, richness, and layers of flavor.” Prefer a Burgundy? Included is 2005 Comtes Lafon Meursault Les Perrieres, which Burghound.com rated at 95 pts and called “textured, pure and stylish … excellent volume but also wonderful detail and punch (with an) intensely mineral finish that is refined, pure and long.” Every wine offered earned at least 93 pts from reviewers.

“A potentially perfect wine...offers gorgeously fresh, lively, but super-concentrated fruit.” That’s how Robert M. Parker Jr. described the 2001 Pride Mountain Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, which he rated at 99 pts. Wine Spectator called the 2001 Pride Reserve at 96 pts and called it “a phenomenal wine, with seductive spice, mocha and chocolaty oak aromas and ripe, rich, plush currant and blackberry fruit that’s deeply concentrated, revealing extra layers of complexity and depth.” That’s the caliber of Cab we’re offering in this grand collection of the best Cabs of the West Coast. Among the great Bordeaux vintages of the later part of the 20th century are the vintages of 1982, 1986, 1989 and 1990. And in this collection we offer select Bordeaux from those vintages. Here’s a taste of classic Bordeaux at its finest: 1982 Grand-Puy-Lacoste, which Robert M. Parker Jr. rated at 96 pts and called “one of the all-time great Grand-Puy-Lacostes;” 1986 Mouton-Rothschild, Parker 100 pts; 1989 Lynch-Bages, Decanter 5 stars; and 1989 Pichon-Longueville Baron, which Wine Spectator rated at 98 pts and called “hedonistic.” From the historic 1990 vintage we have Margaux, Parker 100 pts, WS 99 pts, and Stephen Tanzer 98 pts. Parker noted that “in the mouth, there is not a hard edge to this classic wine, which is super-concentrated, soft, silky-textured and opulent.”

Colgin. Dunn Howell. Joseph Phelps. Kistler. Marcassin. Spottswoode. Those are the producers whose fine Cabs and Chardonnays are offered in this collection that is filled primarily with great California wines. Yes there are some French and Spanish wines, but the majority of wines here are California stars such as these: 2004 Colgin Cariad, Robert M. Parker Jr. 99 pts; 1990 Dunn Howell Mountain Cab, Parker 96 pts; 2002 Joseph Phelps Insignia, Wine Spectator 96 pts; and 1994 Spottswoode, which WS rated at 94 pts and called “full-bodied and firm with complex chocolate, plum, spice and licorice flavors.” And there are Chardonnays such as 2001 Marcassin Three Sisters Chardonnay, which WS rated at 98 pts and called “satiny, smooth and ultra rich…impeccably balanced.”

Robert M. Parker Jr., Wine Spectator and Jancis Robinson all rated the 1990 Petrus with ‘perfect’ scores. Wine Spectator called the 1990 Petrus “superb” and Robinson called it “seductive, sweet and long.” That legendary Petrus is one of the Bordeaux offered in this connoisseur’s cache of France’s greatest wines. Other Bordeaux include 1990 Cheval-Blanc, Parker 98+ pts; 1990 Haut-Brion, Parker 98 pts; 1990 Montrose; Parker 100 pts; and 1986 Mouton-Rothschild, Parker 100 pts. From the Rhone Valley there are “perfect” wines too, such as 1988 E. Guigal Cote-Rotie La Turque and 1990 E. Guigal Cote-Rotie La Landonne, both Parker 100 pts. One of the choice Burgundies in this collection is 1990 Domaine Leroy Richebourg, WS and Wine Advocate both 96 pts. Don’t overlook the 12-bottle case of 1988 Mouton-Rothschild, WS 94 pts.

The 2000 Bordeaux vintage was one for the history books, and in this collection we offer numerous 2000 Bordeaux with “perfect” 100 pts ratings. Included in that group are Lafite-Rothschild, Latour, Margaux and Pavie, all of which earned 100 pts scores for the 2000 vintage. Also here are extraordinary white Burgundies such as 2007 Domaine Michel Niellon Batard Montrachet, Burghound.com 95 pts, and 2006 Domaine Ramonet Bienvenues Batard Montrachet, which Wine Spectator rated at 96 pts. And if you enjoy Riesling, there are many here, including 2007 H. Donnhoff Kreuznacher Krotenpfuhl Riesling Spatlese, which Wine Advocate rated at 95 pts and called “a towering home run.” Tucked into this collection are choice Cabs from Beringer, Dunn Howell and others, as well as wines from Gaja.

Parker Jr. 100 pts; 2000 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Richebourg, Burghound.com 92 pts; 2001 DRC Le Montrachet, Stephen Tanzer 94 pts; 1998 Domaine du Pegau Chateauneuf du Pape da Capo, Parker 100; and many vintage Champagnes, such as 1988 Krug Clos du Mesnil, which Wine Spectator rated at 99 pts and described as “a tightly wound thoroughbred.” From California we offer premier wines from Blankiet, Beringer, Bryant, Caymus, Dalla Valle and Harlan, including 2001 Harlan, Parker 100 pts. Some of the Cabs come in large formats. Included too is 1998 Luciano Sandrone Barolo le Vigne, which Parker rated at 95 pts and called “extraordinarily pure…exquisite.”
