Auction Spotlights

If you enjoy 1982 Margaux – one of the legends of late 20th century Bordeaux – then the only thing better than a 750ml of the wine is bigger bottle, say 3.0ltr. We have one in this auction, along with 1.5ltr and larger formats of all the world’s best wines, from Cult Cabs and Shiraz, to Super Tuscans, Bordeaux, Port and Champagne. Robert M. Parker Jr. rated the 1982 Margaux at 98 pts and admired its “notes of melted tar intermixed with sweet cassis and floral underpinnings. Very full-bodied and dense for a Chateau Margaux, with a slight rusticity to the tannins, it boasts blockbuster power, richness.” Stephen Tanzer rated the 1982 Margaux at 96 pts and called it “penetrating and powerful.” Every wine in this collection earned at least 90 pts from reviewers.

Not only are some of the most acclaimed California Cabs of the last decade included here, but some come in horizontals of 1.5ltr formats. For instance, if you enjoy Bond’s extraordinary wines, you may be interested in a 2004 Bond horizontal of 1.5ltr bottles that come in their original wooden case. The wines earned 92-97 pts, depending on the wine and reviewer. Also here is a 2005 Harlan 1.5ltr 3-bottle lot with its original wooden case. Robert M. Parker Jr. rated the wine at 97 pts and described it as a combination of “a Pauillac and a ripe vintage of La Mission Haut-Brion. Full-bodied, dense, pure.” Included too are: 2005 Colgin Cariad, Parker 96+ pts; 2004 Harlan The Maiden, Parker 95 pts; and 2005 Screaming Eagle, Parker 98 pts. Don’t miss the 2003 Montrose, Parker 97 pts and Stephen Tanzer 96 pts.

The 2009 Hospices de Beaune, the bellwether Burgundy auction held early each November in Beaune, France, has just been held. And, as we have since 2001, WineBid.com participated in the 2009 auction and purchased an extraordinary barrel, which will be available to our customers after its elevage has been completed at Maison Louis Jadot, one of Burgundy’s finest maisons. In the meantime, we are offering some of our library Hospices de Beaune vintages, including vintages from 2001 through 2006. Of special note is a 2001-2005 Hospices de Beaune Corton Dr. Peste/Volnay Santenots 5-bottle vertical. All wines were carefully chosen by WineBid.com exclusively for its customers. And elevage for all wines was handled by Domaine Louis Jadot.
