West Coast Pinot Noir

Kistler. Martinelli. Aubert. Rochioli. Brewer-Clifton. Kosta Browne. Sea Smoke. Those are some of the California and Oregon producers whose Pinot Noirs are offered in this collection. These producers have melded Burgundian winemaking traditions with terroir of California and Oregon to create remarkable wines with unique character. Here’s a taste: 2007 Brewer-Clifton Clos Pepe Pinot Noir; Robert M. Parker Jr. 96 pts; 2006 Aubert UV Vineyards Pinot Noir, Stephen Tanzer 94 pts; and 1997 Williams Selyem Riverblock Vineyard Pinot Noir, which Wine Spectator rated at 93 pts and called “firm, dark, rich and concentrated.” Every wine here earned at least 90 pts from reviewers.

     

California Cabernet Sauvignon

“The 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select is one of the finest wines of the vintage...There is stunning intensity, tremendous purity, full body, and a remarkable, seamless finish.” That’s what Robert M. Parker Jr. had to say about the 1999 Shafer Hillside Select, which he rated at 97 pts. Wine Spectator also rated it at 97 pts and called it a “monumental wine, bold, rich, smooth and concentrated, with layers of ripe black cherry, currant, plum anise and blackberry.” The 1999 Shafer is offered in this collection of California’s finest Cabernet Sauvignons. Included too are the best Cabs from Washington State. Every wine offered earned at least 94 pts from reviewers.

Fine Wines from France and California

From 100-pt First Growth Bordeaux, to Cult Cabs and stunning Rhones, this big collection includes fine Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhone Valley wines, Cult Cabs, Chardonnay and domestic Pinot Noir. Vintages are mostly from the 1990s and the new millennium, but there are also historic Bordeaux from 1961. Included are: 1990 Le Pin, Robert M. Parker Jr. 98 pts; 1990 Margaux, Parker 100 pts; 1990 Comte de Vogue Musigny Vieilles Vignes, Clive Coates 20 pts; 2007 Domaine Leflaive Chevalier Montrachet, Stephen Tanzer 96 pts; and 2001 E. Guigal Cote-Rotie la Landonne, Wine Spectator 96 pts. From California we offer 2003 Harlan The Maiden in a 3-bottle lot, WS 96 pts; 1997 Abreu, Parker 100 pts; and 2007 Aubert UV Vineyards Pinot Noir, which WS rated at 96 pts and called “elegant and refined. Full-bodied, but not weighty, allowing the rich flavors to dance on the palate.”

     

Grand Cru Burgundy

From the historic domaines of Burgundy we offer traditionally made Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, including Grand Crus. Vintages are recent, from 2002 to 2007, and the wines come from such acclaimed domaines as Comte de Vogue, Domaine Dujac, Meo-Camuzet and Christophe Perrot-Minot. Included is 2007 Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne, which Wine Advocate rated at 94 pts and Burghound.com rated at 92-95 pts. Burghound.com described it as having “a wonderfully elegant, pure and high-toned nose that is quite floral with a pronounced citrus influence.” Also offered are: 2006 Michael Gros Clos de Vougeot, Wine Spectator 93 pts; 2007 Comte de Vogue Bonnes Mares, Burghound.com 92-95 pts; and 2007 Comte de Vogue Musigny Vieilles Vignes, Burghound.com 94-97 pts.

     

Gems from Spain, Italy and Germany

Enjoy the robust reds of Spain and Italy? In this collection we offer choice wines from such producers as Vega Sicilia, Bodegas Mauro and Alejandro Fernandez. Included is 1995 Vega Sicilia Unico, which Wine Advocate rated at 97 pts and called “full-bodied and powerful, the wine has beautiful balance with multi-dimensional character.” Also offered are: 2001 Bodegas Mauro Vendimia Seleccionada, Robert M. Parker Jr. 96 pts; 1990 Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia, Parker 94 pts; and 2001 Vietti Barolo Villero Riserva, which Wine Spectator, Stephen Tanzer and Wine Advocate all rated at 95 pts. There are Rieslings here too, including 2006 Dr. Loosen Erdener Pralat Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel, WS and International Wine Cellar both 94 pts. Wine Spectator called it “very rich and luscious, with botrytis of spice, preserved apricot and jellied lime riding the vibrant structure.”
