Moris Farms

Moris Farms is a leading estate of the southern Maremma region of Tuscany, and also one of its most historic. Though in recent decades the Maremma has been “discovered” by Italian winemakers from other parts of Italy, the Moris family moved to Tuscany from Spain in the 18th century and immediately planted grape vines. Over the generations they grew grapes and also farmed, producing a variety of agricultural products. The grapes were used for bulk wines until 1988, when owner Adolfo Parentinni convinced his family to make higher quality bottled wines. Today Moris Farms owns two estates. One is Fattoria Pogetti, a 1,000-acre estate near Massa Marittima with nearly 100 acres of vineyards. The other is Poggio La Mozza, a 130-acre estate in the Morellino di Scansano AOC. Moris Farms’ flagship wine is Avvoltore, a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah named after a falcon-like game bird native to the Maremma. The estate also makes Morellino di Scansano and other Sangiovese-based reds, as well as several whites. Robert M. Parker Jr. calls Moris Farms “a superb source of wines that deliver much pleasure and style…”
