RATINGS

Complex, deep, musky nose offers orange, hazelnut and vanilla scents. Dense and silky on entry, then lively and gripping in the middle, with an element of concentration and finesse...

This is very Charmes as it's generous, both on the nose and palate with its beguiling blend of ripe apricot, peach & melon in perfect keeping with the sappy, mouth coating, rich, full and relatively powerful flavors... In a word, lovely.

PRODUCER

Francois Jobard

Domaine Francois Jobard is the former name of what became Domaine Francoise et Antoine Jobard, and since 2008 simply Domaine Antoine Jobard. The 15-acre estate has vineyard parcels in Meursault, Meursault-Blagny and Puligny-Montrachet. Founded in the 19th century, this family-run domaine has changed its name slightly from generation to generation to reflect the passage of daily operations from father to son. All the parcels are either Premier Cru or villages. Clive Coates notes that Domaine Antoine Jobard “is one of the great Meursault estates.”

REGION

France, Burgundy, Côte d'Or, Côte de Beaune, Meursault, Les Charmes

Les Charmes, at 78 acres, is Meursault’s largest Premier Cru vineyard. Like its neighboring Premier Crus, Les Genevrieres and Les Perrieres, is is south of the commune of Meursault and very close to Puligny-Montrachet. Since Meursault lacks a Grand Cru, Meursault’s reputation for excellence is based on the Premier Crus, particularly the whites. Les Charmes abuts Puligny-Montrachet. Burgundy writer Clive Coates writes that “there is an attractive, soft flowery character to a Charmes: peach blossom, delicately nutty, gently honeyed.”

TYPE

White Wine, Chardonnay, 1er (Premier) Cru

This white variety originated in Burgundy, but is now grown around the world. Its flexibility to thrive in many regions translates to wide flavor profile in the market. Chardonnay is commonly used in making Champagne and sparkling wines.
