El Gavilan Casa de Sonoma wine comes from vineyards near Santa Rosa that were in the mid-20th century owned by Sebastiani. Though known for producing bulk wines, Sebastiani in 1947 bottled a limited amount of 1941 Cabernet Sauvignon from those Santa Rosa Vineyards. August Sebastiani choose to name the wine after his home, Casa de Sonoma, and it was bottled at the El Gavilan winery, which was also owned by Sebastiani. The wine was stored on the Sebastiani estate and in 1982 the bottles were recorked at Sebastiani.
One of the most widely grown grape varieties, it can be found in nearly every wine growing region. A cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a hardy vine that produces a full-bodied wine with high tannins and great aging potential.
